Bio: Gary Phillips’ latest are the ebook novella, The Essex Man, a homage to ‘70s era paperback vigilantes; co-editor and contributor to Black Pulp, an anthology of retro, revisionist pulp goodness with black characters in the lead; and under his Mal Radcliff nom de guerre, writing the further adventures of the Silencer for Blood & Tacos.

Bio: Craig Faustus Buck is a writer of many faces having been a journalist, a nonfiction book author, an episodic TV writer-producer, an MOW and miniseries writer, a feature film screenwriter, and now a crime novelist. He has ghostwritten five nonfiction books, including two that were NYT #1 best-sellers (Toxic Parents and It’s Your Body). He is currently has a feature film in preproduction and his agent is shopping his first noir mystery novel, Go Down Hard, which was First Runner Up for the Claymore Award at Killer Nashville.

Bio: A former reporter in three foreign countries and the U.S., Cornishwoman Jill Amadio’s day job is ghostwriting but she often ends up promoted, pleasantly, to co-author or author. She has ghosted or co-authored 11 biographies and memoirs, a true crime, and a crime novel, weathering clients’ zany shenanigans and demands. She threatens a tell-all titled, “Hey! I Really Wrote That Book, Not Him!” Jill has given workshops on ghostwriting at several writers conferences, including in Canada. Her latest ghosted autobiography was for a 96-year old retired U.S. ambassador who still consults on South-East Asia for the United Nations. Her biography, Gunther Ral: Luftwafe Ace & Nato General is now an e-Book. She finally shed her shroud long enough to write her own mystery, Digging Too Deep, for release December 1, 2013.

Bio: Michael Mallory is the author of four volumes of “Amelia Watson” adventures, the most recent of which is the novel The Stratford Conspiracy. He also writes the ongoing “Scotty” mysteries published periodically on the Los Angeles Times Kids Reading Room page. He has written over 120 short stories, which were published in magazines ranging from Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine to Fox Kids Magazine and in the anthologies The Mammoth Book of Legal Thrillers; My Sherlock Holmes; Sherlock Holmes: The Hidden Years; Sherlock Holmes: The American Years; and The Mammoth Book of New Jules Verne Adventures. He co-edited the Sisters in Crime/LA anthologies LAndmarked for Murder and Murder on Sunset Boulevard. Outside of fiction, Mike has written some 450 articles, mostly about film and animation subjects, as well as six books on pop-culture, with the seventh, The Science Fiction Universe and Beyond, scheduled for publication in October 2012. He is often called upon by various media sources an animation industry historian, and also acts on television, when allowed to.

Lisa Brackmann has worked as an executive at a major motion picture studio, an issues researcher in a presidential campaign, and was the singer/songwriter/bassist in an LA rock band. Yes, she will do karaoke, and she’s looking to buy a bass ukulele. Her debut novel, Rock Paper Tiger , set on the fringes of the Chinese art world, made several “Best of 2010″ lists, including Amazon’s Top 100 Novels and Top 10 Mystery/Thrillers, and was nominated for the Strand Magazine Critics Award for Best First Novel. Her second novel, Getaway, won the Los Angeles Book Festival Grand Prize and was nominated for the T. Jefferson Parker SCIBA award. Lisa will read from her latest novel Hour of the Rat. MEETING DETAILS
The Los Angeles Chapter meets once a month on a Sunday at the historic Community Room of the South Pasadena Library located at 1115 El Centro Street. The library was founded on September 10, 1895. The current site was built in 1907 and expanded in 1930 and again in 1982 to 24,500 square feet and 125,000 titles. The Community Room entrance of the existing structure was once the front door of the historic library.
The meet-and-greet starts at 2:00 p.m. The program begins at 2:30 p.m. and ends at approximately 4:00 p.m.
